I guess I got “hooked” on cigarettes in college. I started smoking because I thought (and still think!) that it looked incredibly sexy when a man held a cigarette between his rough fingers, practically covered his mouth with his hand, and exhaled thick clouds of white smoke. So naturally, when those sexy smokers started offering me cigarettes, I started taking them. It started innocently enough, but my “recreational smoking” quickly snowballed into something more akin to addiction. I started bumming cigarettes every time I went out, then started buying my own. My brand was Parliament Lights (backup brand: American Spirits…I HAVE to have a white filter in my cigarettes, no exceptions!). For a while, I even rolled my own. At my worst I was a pack-a-day smoker…and I was a marathon runner, too! I knew smoking was horrible for me, so I decided to quit.
But anyone who’s tried to quit smoking knows that it’s a lot easier said than done. I ultimately managed to “quit” by switching over to an e-cig. I use a pretty low nicotine level, so these days I consider myself a non-smoker. I’ve been a non-smoker for about 2 years now! That being said, I’m certainly no angel. When I’ve been out drinking or I’m really stressed out (sometimes it’s something as simple as eating a big meal or seeing someone smoke in a movie), I CRAVE cigarettes. It’s a bit problematic, though, because my boyfriend will flip out if he catches me smoking. He will lecture me, refuse to kiss me, and make me feel terrible for giving in to “the cancer sticks”. eyeroll
Join me in being just a little bad while I sneak this pilfered cigarette 🙂 I walked over to a park to people-watch and chat with you while I enjoy one of life’s best guilty pleasures. It’s definitely not my favorite brand (Misty 120s), but the filter is white, the nicotine is strong, and I can take nice long drags. I’m glad someone left these at my house! I haven’t even had a “snuck” cigarette in months, so I’m really looking forward to this. If I look a little awkward holding the cig, it’s because 1) it’s been a while and 2) it feels strange to hold a long cig if you’re used to the regular sized ones! I show you the filthy yellow-brown filter after I take luxurious drags, getting a heady buzz in the process. I can’t stand watching people go forever without ashing, but I also can’t help playfully teasing you by letting my ash grow and grow til it falls away in the breeze or I blow it off the end.
